The Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards are open to any Scottish business that is taking significant steps to improve or reduce their impact on the environment. The Award recognises and showcases best environmental practice and it main aims are to:
Encourage the efficient use of resources
Enhance the competitiveness of businesses
Improve environmental performance
Support the wider goals of sustainable development including social benefits through community and staff involvement.
Previous winners and finalists have come from the agricultural sector:
2007 NATIONAL WINNER SMALL CATEGORY Cream of Galloway - organic farming and manufacture of retail ice cream and visitor centre. 650 sheep, 85 dairy cows and 35 beef cows.
2007 FINALIST SMALL CATEGORY Press Mains Farm - 1000 acre arable farm with beef cattle and holiday cottages.
2007 FINALIST MEDIUM CATEGORY Mackies - 1500 acre family run farm with crops and 500 dairy cows and ice cream manufacturer
2007 FINALIST SMALL CATEGORY Morton of Pitmilly - diversified arable farm 150 acres now concentrating on tourism: converted steadings, woodland tracks, play areas etc. Farm produces 350 tonnes of cereals p.a.
