Exotic and Notifiable Disease

Category: Livestock related

Delivered by: Animal Health

In the event of an exotic disease outbreak, Animal Health has the lead role in the field and works closely with others, most especially the Chief Veterinary Officer, local authorities, the police and for some diseases, the Health Protection Agency.

Animal Health looks for notifiable diseases on the ground, inspecting animals for clinical signs of disease. This is known as animal disease surveillance, and the amount of surveillance that we do depends on the risk.
